Overview
Brunt Skerries is a reef that breaks over a rock ledge, sitting right in front of the Castle of Mey.
When It Works
Fast, shallow lefts run down the reef when there is north swell, while west swells tend to wall the wave up instead. A right breaks here from time to time too, so both directions are on the table. It draws swell from the west to north (W-N) window, with northwest (NW) the best match, and it is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Expect it to be moderately consistent when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef comes in on lower water, working through low and mid tide, with a rising tide the better call. Lower incoming tides usually deliver the best shape, but keep an eye out for rocky protrusions as the water drops.
Local Tips
The speed and shallow reef make this one for experts. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it is on.
