Overview
Brusand is a fickle but fun beachbreak that produces the best sandbars around, throwing up both lefts and rights over sand. When it's on, the waves are mostly short and genuinely powerful.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from northwest through north to southeast, and south swell is the best match. Sizeable northwest swells refract in and get things going too, but Brusand makes the most of anything with south in it. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. The bank can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
It's a good fit for intermediate surfers. The currents run stronger here than at the beaches further north, so it's worth keeping an eye on where you're drifting.
Access
There's a campsite at either end of the beach. The one at the far southeast end has a car park where you pay NOK 10 to leave the car. Like all the bigger beaches on Jæren, the dunes are vulnerable to erosion, so stick to the established paths on your way down.
