Overview
Buarcos is a long, high-quality right-hand point that rewards carving over tube riding. The wave peels over a mix of uneven reef and sand, and on the right day rides can stretch several hundred metres down the point.
When It Works
Buarcos needs a bit of size to wake up, coming alive once the swell pushes over a metre (4 ft) and holding its shape well when bigger sets arrive. The working range runs from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. It draws swell from southwest to north, with a west swell the best match for lining up those long walls.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind. The point isn't badly knocked around by north winds either, so the workable wind window is fairly forgiving. It breaks through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, with long, carveable walls that leave plenty of room to link turns. For a wave this good, the lineup stays surprisingly quiet.
Access
There's a solid spread of facilities on hand, including restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, camping, a surf school, and a surf shop. Parking covers a car park along with paid and roadside options.
