Overview
Buddha Beach is a narrow, rocky beach break with a character all its own, watched over by a 16-metre statue that gives the place a unique feel. Waves break over boulders and sand and peel both left and right, though it's a messy set-up that often has to deal with bad backwash.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from northeast (NE) through east, with northeast the best match. It's usually surfed on typhoon swells and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is moderate, so you'll find worthwhile windows when the setup lines up rather than dependable surf every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. The northeast monsoon blows straight onshore here, which is why typhoon swells paired with southwest winds are the usual call. It works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better bet.
Local Tips
The lineup stays fairly quiet, often a solo session, and the waves suit beginners looking for a mellow paddle-out.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, but reaching the beach itself is a bit of a mission, so plan for the trek in.
