Overview
Buffels Bay is a fast, furious right-hand pointbreak that reels down the line over an uneven reef. When it's on, the long walls demand committed, high-speed surfing all the way through.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), with south (S) swell the best match, and it takes a serious amount of south swell before it shows. It works from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 6.1 m / 20 ft, so this is a spot for real size. Consistency is on the low side, and the truly classic days when those long walls line up are few and far between.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind; the point comes alive when stormy SW winds groom it. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert's wave. The speed and power reward confident down-the-line surfing, and staying clear of the impact zone takes real timing if you don't want to get caught inside. Expect a very busy lineup on the good days, with a core of dialled-in locals, so patience is part of the deal when you're trying to pick one off.
Access
There's paid parking at the spot.
