Overview
Buritaca is a rivermouth setup with two right-hand pointbreaks in a beautiful, natural setting. The points are anchored by rock, so they keep their shape even as the sandbars around the river shift, while the rivermouth itself can throw hollow waves. Turtles are a common sight here.
When It Works
The waves peel right over a mix of boulders and sand, drawing swell from north to northeast (N-NE), with northeast (NE) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and is only moderately consistent, so it won't be on every day, but it rewards you when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a south (S) offshore wind to groom the faces. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Buritaca suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet.
