Busua Beach surf guide

Busua Beach is known as Ghana’s surfing centre, attracting surfers from all over. It's a laid-back spot where the atmosphere is friendly, making it popular among surf schools and local riders. The beach has a mix of sandy areas and waves that cater to various skill levels, particularly beginners looking to get a feel for the ocean.

The waves at Busua Beach are generally fun and easy to ride, making it a good spot for those just starting out. The optimal swell direction is from the south, and the beach works well with swells coming from the southeast and southwest. You can expect waves that are rideable at sizes around 1 ft (0.3 m) and breaks over the sand, giving you a soft landing. Surfing here, you'll find both lefts and rights to choose from. The best wind direction for surfing is from the northwest, and the waves work well throughout low, mid, and high tide, providing plenty of options for your surfing session.

When exploring other nearby spots, the backbeach at Butre can sometimes offer better conditions if Busua is too dumpy. There's also the offshore island of Abokwa, which may have potential but is only accessible by boat. Keep these options in mind if you're looking to mix things up during your surf trip.
