C Street is the main beach break in Wrightsville Beach and one of the more consistent spots in the area, though how well it breaks comes down to the sand. It runs as both a left and a right over a sand bottom, and on its day the waves can get good.
When It Works
The break draws swell from east through south-southeast (E-SSE) and is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.1 m / 7 ft. Autumn is the prime window, with swell here largely storm-dependent: tropical cyclones through late summer and fall, then frontal activity from late fall through winter into spring. Paddling out is normally straightforward, though south swells can kick up some current to deal with.
Wind and Tide
Look for west-northwest (WNW) offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from west to northwest. It breaks on low to mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
C Street suits everyone from beginners to experts, and the range of gear that turns up reflects that, from shortboards, fish, and funboards to longboards, SUPs, skimboards, bodyboards, and even kiteboards. Expect a busy lineup when it's working, especially in the fall when UNCW students are around. The atmosphere is generally neutral, though the crowds can bring some localism.
Access
Parking meters are in effect all over from Memorial Day to Labor Day; outside that season, parking is wide open. Note that water quality near the Cape Fear River can suffer after heavy rain or a hurricane.
