Cannes surf guide

Cannes is a well-known spot along the French Riviera, famous for its beautiful beaches and lively atmosphere. It attracts both locals and tourists, making it a popular place to catch some waves. The surf scene here has its ups and downs, so it’s good to know what to expect before you paddle out.

The best time to surf at Cannes is when the swell is coming in from the South-East, but you can also catch some decent waves with swells from the East and South. The spot can handle swell sizes starting from about 1 ft (0.3 meters). The waves here break over sand, giving you both left and right options to ride. For the best experience, low to mid tide is preferable, and intermediate surfers will find it manageable. On days with west winds, spots like Plage du Midi offer some fun lefts, especially at l'Aérospatiale and Chantier, where you might even score a barrel at l'Abreuvoir. If the wind is blowing from the east, head over to the Palm Beach area to enjoy the waves, but watch out for the rocks and urchins.

Access is pretty straightforward as you can jump off the jetty at l'Aérospatiale. When it’s onshore, you might find quite a few kiters joining you in the lineup, so be prepared for some crowd action. While the conditions can be hit or miss, there's always the possibility of a fun session if you pick the right time to go out.
