Overview
Cape St Francis Beach is a beach break that peels both left and right over sand. It's a super-consistent swell magnet of a bay with something for every ability, so there's almost always a peak worth surfing somewhere along it.
When It Works
The bay draws swell from east through south to southwest, with south (S) swell the best match, and it's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It's especially worth a look when the swell is small. The north end, between The Corner, Lookouts and Ducks, is usually the place to find something working, where sandbars held by reef patches keep the banks in shape.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. The workable wind window is wide, holding up in anything from south through northwest, and the north end even keeps working in north winds. It rides through low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly, approachable wave for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet.
