Carolles is a beach break that peels both left and right over a mix of rock ledge and sand. It sits along the coast south of Granville, where the swell window narrows and only west-northwest swell reaches the shore. Before you paddle out, it's worth checking from the top of the cliff to see whether the shorebreak is doing its thing, or whether patches of reef are shaping the mush below.
When It Works
The spot draws swell from the west to northwest, with a northwest swell the best match. It is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there's a decent band of workable size to play with. Consistency sits on the lower side here, so it won't switch on as often as more exposed breaks up the coast.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind to clean up the faces. Carolles breaks around mid to high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a welcoming spot for beginners finding their feet. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet, so you shouldn't have to work hard for waves when it's on.

There's a car park with free parking, along with roadside parking, reached via the D911 down to Carolles plage.
