Overview
Casa Grande is a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right, a short hop from the Hotel Mendihuaca. How it breaks comes down to the sandbank: on a good one the wave tubes, on a poor one it tends to close out. When the mouth of the Rio Mendihuaca is open, keep an eye out for some longer lefts.
When It Works
The break draws swell from northwest through northeast (NW-NE), with northeast (NE) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is moderate, so expect rideable windows rather than something firing every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind to clean up the peaks. The bank can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers comfortable reading a shifting beach break peak. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
Access
Getting there is easy: about a 3-minute drive or a 10-minute walk from the Hotel Mendihuaca. There's camping on hand, along with free roadside parking.
