Casares is a fickle, hard-to-read reef break tucked at a small fishing village with friendly locals. Several peaks come to life along the rocky shoreline, offering both lefts and rights over a mix of uneven reef and sand.
When It Works
Casares draws swell from south to southwest, with southwest (SW) the best match, and it needs a good swell to push through the offshore reefs before focusing in on the shoreline. The wave is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Consistency is on the lower side, so it pays to catch it during the right windows rather than counting on it any day.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, but a rising tide is generally the better call, and the peaks usually come together best on higher water.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave and not one for beginners. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on.
