Cassava is a left-hand point that peels over a mix of boulders and sand, and it is also known as Shipwrecks after the name given by the local surf camp. It sits open to the swell, so it comes alive with fun waves when the other points around are too small to ride. There is real power on tap too: at double overhead the waves hold their shape as they heave in toward the rocks.
When It Works
The point draws swell from south through west, with south the direction that lines it up best. It is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, giving it plenty of range from playful days up to serious size. Expect it to be moderately consistent, so it produces worthwhile waves fairly regularly rather than only on rare swells.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast offshore wind to clean it up. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a wave for intermediate surfers, especially once it picks up size and power. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet, so you can usually find room without much of a crowd.
Access
There is camping available nearby if you want to stay close to the break.
