Overview
Cerro Azul is a left-hand sand point that peels off the headland into the bay, tucked between a tall headland and a long fishing pier. The wave starts steep and then eases into the shoulder, cruising through the sections toward the pier for a ride of around 200 to 300 metres, with the odd tube section along the way. On bigger days you can link it the whole way across to the pier. It makes a relaxed alternative to the chunkier waves around Punta Hermosa, and there are more setups worth a look further north at Puerto Fiel.
When It Works
The point draws swell from south through west, with southwest (SW) the best match, and it picks up plenty of energy for a reliable, consistent break. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, holding shape and length across that range without taking the really big stuff. Autumn and winter are the seasons to aim for.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind, which sits dead behind the wave here. The point works through most of the tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
It is friendly enough for beginners, who can walk out across the shallow sands and drop into corners further down the line. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works, especially once the town fills up over summer, and the crowd can feel a little reserved. There is often some current, so most surfers walk back around to the point after a wave. Watch for stingrays on the way out and shuffle your feet across the sand to avoid a venomous barb.

Getting in is simple, and parking is easy to sort, with a car park offering free parking alongside paid and roadside options.
