Charpencaye surf guide

Charpencaye is located at Anse Charpentier and features a right reef break that is popular among experienced surfers. It's a spot that can be a bit tricky, suitable mainly for those who know what they’re doing in the water. The area requires some caution due to its rocky nature, but it can offer decent waves when the conditions are right.

This spot works best with a swell direction coming from the northeast, and it can handle swell sizes of about 3 feet (roughly 1 meter). The waves break over dead coral, creating right-handers that start with a tube section and then lead into a fast, peeling wall. It’s essential to catch it at the right tide, as it can work during low, mid, and high tides, but the best sessions are typically with a southwest wind. Because of the shallow reefs and the rocky bottom, it’s definitely more suited for expert surfers and bodyboarders.

Getting in and out of the water requires some careful maneuvering around the reef, so be prepared for a bit of reef dancing. Just a heads up, the strong currents here make swimming off-limits, so make sure you're focused on your surfing and not getting caught by surprise. If you're looking for some variety, there is a beach break on the other side of the bay as well.
