Overview
Choralillo is a fun left point tucked onto the southern side of a hammer-shaped desert headland, just past Mejillones, the last town of any real size north of Antofagasta. The point makes a good playground for practicing radical manoeuvres and rewards surfers who like to work the wall.
When It Works
The wave peels left over an uneven reef and pulls in swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest swell the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it stays moderately consistent when the swell lines up in that window.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to groom the face. The point can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a solid spot for intermediate surfers keen to throw down manoeuvres. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, and you may share the water with wave sailors and kiters who make the trip over from the sheltered water behind Isla Santa Maria.
