Clarence Point surf guide

Clarence Point is a surf spot located just north of the Clarence River mouth, north of Kaikoura. The area features about 1500 meters of coastline that angles nicely into the southeastern swells, providing multiple right point options for surfers. To get there, you'll need to park by the side of the road after crossing the Clarence River. It's a short walk across the train tracks and through several paddocks to reach the waves.

This spot works best with southeast swells and can also handle east and southwest waves, generally performing well when the swell is around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters). Surfers can expect right-point breaks that are particularly nice under the right conditions. The wind from the west is preferred, and the surf can be fun at low, mid, or high tide, making it a versatile spot for your sessions. It's more suitable for intermediate surfers, so keep that in mind when considering your ability level.

While you're at Clarence Point, it's worth noting that the surf can vary, and nearby Kekerengu provides easier rides if you're looking for something less challenging. Make sure to check the conditions before heading out, as they can change quickly.
