Overview
Consolação is a heavy right-hand point on the Portuguese coast, breaking over uneven reef. The main wave is a long, fat right to the south of the Consolação headland that can hold serious size, while the north side hides a far more fickle but hollow left. Both waves pack real weight, and the right enjoys good shelter from north wind.
When It Works
The point draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with west (W) swell the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 5.5 m / 18 ft, so it needs a proper swell to get going but keeps breaking well into very big surf.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind. The wave can break through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a wave for expert surfers. Heavy rips run through the lineup and rocks are part of the deal, so longer boards are a good idea.
Access
There's a car park with free parking as well as roadside parking, and you'll find showers and a lifeguard at the spot.
