Copacabana is a left-hand point that breaks over a shallow rock ledge at the northern end of the bay, just south of Avoca. Sucky lefts unload on the outside section before peeling through to fun inside sandbars.
When It Works
The outside reef fires first, then the wave links through to the inside sandbars on higher tides and a south swell. It draws swell from east through south (E-S), with southeast (SE) the best match, and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. The point is moderately consistent, while the banks facing the lake entrance are more hit-and-miss but can get good when they line up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. The point works across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, and the higher end of the tide helping the inside sandbars come to life.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it turns on, and it can be hard to get waves off the accomplished local crew.
Access
There is a car park with free parking, plus paid and roadside options nearby. You will also find restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf school on hand.
