County Line/Yerba Buena Beach Surf Forecast Guide

County Line/Yerba Buena Beach is a scenic, undeveloped stretch that makes a welcome change from the urban breaks to the south. It's the first consistently surfed spot below Point Mugu, and it always turns out bigger and colder than it looks from the highway. There are two distinct areas: a rocky point on the north end and a beachbreak spread along outer reefs to the south. It's probably the most visible break on this run of coast, but the lineup is indistinct and hard to read, which helps spread everyone out. Thick outside kelp beds keep the water fairly glassy.

When It Works

The spot draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. The kelpy point and cobblestone right on the north end consistently offers the most shapely waves, lining up best on W and SW swells, with a hollow, rock-riddled left tucked into the far north corner. To the south, the beachbreak throws up punchy, hollow peaks and gets busy during the summer souths. It can be good year-round, but fall comes through most often. Overall it's a decent, reliable option.

Wind and Tide

Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. The break can work through most of the tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call, and the point in particular lines up best on a medium tide.

Local Tips

There's room here for most kit, from shortboards and fish to funboards and longboards, and the waves suit everyone from beginners through to experts. Being close to the Valley means it's rarely empty, but it's still easy to pick off waves, and the vibe in the water is cordial if a touch reserved. Paddling out isn't usually too bad, though it can turn into a lot of duck diving when the swell is solid.

Access

Park right along the surf on PCH, directly in front of Neptune's Net, where there's a car park with paid parking plus restrooms and showers. Keep an eye out for the highway, car break-ins, and bikers around Neptune's Net. It's not great after a rain.
