D2 is a barely submerged slab reef sitting among a cluster of rocky islets offshore. It draws a heavy volume of water off the reef and reshapes it into a thick, squarish righthander, which is why the bodyboard crew come here chasing serious barrels. Similarly brutish lefts break nearby at Coral do Céu.
When It Works
The wave is a right that breaks over a rock ledge. It takes swell from east through south (E-S), with southeast (SE) the best direction. D2 is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and is moderately consistent, so worthwhile windows do come around when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a slab for expert riders only, and the reef is carpeted in sharp shells, so it demands real commitment. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on.
Access
It is a 1.35 km paddle out to the reef, so hiring a boat is a smart move. Onshore you will find a car park along with paid and roadside parking.
