Overview
Dalbeg is a sand-bottomed beach break tucked behind a long jutting headland to the north, which shelters it and keeps it running a touch smaller than neighbouring Dalmore. It throws hollow, thumping waves over changeable sandbars and rocky fringes, breaking both left and right. Strong rips are constantly sculpting the banks, so the sand here is always on the move.
When It Works
The break draws swell from southwest through north, with a west (W) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and really comes alive in peaky summer swells. Push much past double overhead, though, and it gets out of control. Waves are reliably consistent, so there is usually something to ride when a swell is in the water.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Dalbeg suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable with hollow, punchy waves and shifting banks. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it is on.
