Dar Bouazza Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Dar Bouazza is one of Morocco's few lefthanders, a point that wraps around the headland about 40 minutes south of Casablanca's Anfa neighborhood. It's the most famous left in the country, peeling with decent length from the take-off at L'Inter down to the final section by the old ship boiler known as La Bobine. The wave is usually fairly fat, offering cut-back sections rather than a wall to hit, but it can pack a punch and throws up rippable sections when it's on.

When It Works

It breaks left over an uneven reef and draws swell from west to north, coming alive through autumn and winter as the North Atlantic storm track gets active. The wave is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and holds size well, delivering good-quality lefts best suited to intermediate surfers.

Wind and Tide

Look for south (S) offshore wind. The point is at its best on low tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Low water makes it steeper, and it can practically disappear once the tide gets too full.

Local Tips

Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, and the local pack turns out on weekends, though the crowd spreads out as the swell builds. A quiver with options pays off here, since shortboards, funboards, longboards, and fish all have their place depending on the day. Watch for sharp rocks and urchins on the reef and point, so hard-sole booties are worth packing, and give the nearby Chapeau Chinois A-frame a wide berth, as it's extremely shallow.

Access

Access is easy off a marked turn-off. Park in the dirt area within sight of the break and time your jump off the sharp rocks at the top of the point. If the tide is too high or the swell too small, continue about a mile down the coast to the beachbreaks and rock-shelf peaks of Jack Beach.
