Dee Why Point Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Dee Why Point is a technical, ledgy right-hander that breaks over a rock ledge and has been challenging surfers for years. The sucking wave peels through a small takeoff zone in front of a swimming pool built onto the ledge. Dee Why beach also holds some good beachbreaks that take a bit more size when the No Mans stretch closes out, plus a kiddies corner tucked behind the pool for something easier.

When It Works

The point draws swell from east to south, with south swell the best match, and the classic setup comes together on the frequent winter south swells. It's a reef wave that works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 6.1 m / 20 ft, so it holds real size when the surf is up. Expect a moderately consistent break that rewards you when the setup lines up.

Wind and Tide

Look for southwest offshore wind. It's best on mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is an expert wave. The lineup is ruled by hardcore locals who patrol the small takeoff zone, and it gets very busy when it's on, so come with the skill and patience to match.

Access

There are full facilities here, including restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop. It's an easy drive-by check before you commit to parking, with a car park plus free, paid, metered, and roadside options.
