Overview
Desembocadura is a sand-bottom beachbreak at the mouth of the Bío Bío river in Concepción, the capital of Region 8 and Chile's second largest city. The break peels both left and right, though scattered rocks lurk in the sand. It often closes out, but once the sand has settled it can show some real form. With plenty of industry nearby, water quality here is variable.
When It Works
The beachbreak pulls in plenty of swell and draws it from south through west-southwest to northwest (S-WSW-NW), with southwest (SW) swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is moderate, so the standout days come when swell and sand line up together.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind to clean it up. The break works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is beginner-friendly terrain and the easiest spot to reach in town, so expect a moderately busy lineup when it works. It has long been a favorite with local bodyboarders.
Access
You'll find restrooms, a lifeguard, and a surf shop on hand. Parking is easy, with a car park offering free parking alongside roadside spots.
