Surf: Encuentro is the Dominican Republic’s surf hotspot with a variety of waves. Destroyers is a shallow reef, holding fast, round lefts in NW-NE swells up to 8ft (2.5m). Barrels guaranteed but the reef is sharp and urchins love the place. Environment: Confident surfers only. Pros will love the neighbouring left at Mini Tavarua for screaming long lefts over a barely-dry, coral and urchin studded reef. NNW-N swell will be better and more makeable for both these breaks.
