Overview
Devil's Point is a heavy, shallow reef break just west of Mele that fires both lefts and rights over live coral. It's an unforgiving setup, equally shallow and nasty right across the reef, and firmly one for experts only.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northwest through north to southeast, with southeast swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Southeast swells feed the radical lefts, while west-to-northwest conditions switch on the rights. It's moderately consistent, so you'll get worthwhile windows rather than something to ride on every check.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind. The reef breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Mid tide in particular is where the experts tend to take it on.
Local Tips
This is expert-only terrain, with shallow live coral punishing at every stage of the tide. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet.
