Overview
Doughmore is an exposed beachbreak that picks up plenty of west swell and often has a wave when everywhere else on the coast is flat. Peaks break both left and right over sand, and there's a reliable right bank down at the south end.
When It Works
It draws swell from southwest through northwest, with a west swell the best match. The break is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and once it pushes overhead it tends to close out.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast offshore wind. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The paddle-out is punishing and the beach can get dangerously rippy, so it rewards surfers who are comfortable handling that kind of water and current.
Access
Getting in is tricky, since the approach crosses private farmland and a golf course, so check with locals before heading down. Access is by permission only, and you'll run into private land, electric fences, and irate farmers, so don't go blundering across. The golf club is seeking coastal defence work at the beach, which the ISA and WCSC are keeping an eye on. There's free roadside parking nearby.
