Overview
E-Bay is a lush left-hand reef break that peels with near-perfect form over live coral. It's all about a vertical drop into quick turns, then a race under the curtain to the safety of the channel.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest to west (SW-W), and it really comes alive when there's more west (W) in the swell. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft and handles swells of every size, but it's a fickle, somewhat inconsistent wave, so don't count on scoring it during a short two-week trip.
Wind and Tide
Look for east (E) offshore wind, which lines up with a west swell to bring out the best form. It can break through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. The coral is more of a threat at lower tides, there are two big rocks to steer clear of at high tide, and the exit can shut down when it's low.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave. The tight take-off zone bunches everyone into the same spot, since committing to that steep drop is the only way to stay clear of the coral. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on. Less experienced surfers are better off sticking with Pit Stops and Beng Bengs.
