Egg Island is a deep-water, bowling A-frame off the west side of the island, throwing both lefts and rights over a dead coral reef. It sits at the top of Eleuthera, a long, thin island that stays under 2km (1.2mi) wide across 160km (100mi) of shoreline lined with pink-white beaches, sheltered coves and dramatic cliffs.
When It Works
This one wants a proper north swell. It draws swell from north through east, with north the direction that really switches it on, and the reef is usable from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Waves here are somewhat inconsistent, so it pays to wait for the right setup rather than count on it.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind, which is the usual story here since the trades tend to blow offshore across the bowl and keep it clean. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it turns on.
Access
Getting out there means a boat ride from Spanish Wells.
