Ehukai, located on the North Shore of Oahu, is a surf spot that tends to draw a lot of attention. It’s known for its mixed wave conditions, which can provide a bit of a break from more intense nearby breaks. The area can get crowded, especially on good days, so you might have to share the waves with a few other surfers. The vibe is laid-back, typical of Hawaiian surf culture, but the crowd can make it less appealing at times.

The waves here are best suited for intermediate surfers. When the swell rolls in from the north, you can find peaks that break over both uneven reef and some sandy areas. Swells can handle sizes around 2 feet (0.6 meters) and usually come from the north, west, and northeast. You can catch both lefts and rights, and sometimes the waves can get hollow and punchy, especially when the sand has built up just right. It’s pretty common to see surfers throwing down turns and trying for barrels when conditions are peaky, especially during those head-high swells.

When you're planning your session, keep in mind that the best wind conditions come from the east, and the tide can be low, mid, or high without causing too much fuss. This spot can be a fun place to surf if you’re looking for a chance to practice your skills, just be aware of the crowds and the wave dynamics.
