El Malecon is a reef break tucked below the pretty colonial village of Choroni. The waves peel both left and right over a bottom of rock ledge and sand, giving it a bit more shape and character than your average beach setup.
When It Works
The break draws swell from the north through to the east (N-E), and it lines up best on a northeast swell. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, so there's a decent working range to play with once a swell fills in. Consistency is moderate here, so it pays to keep an eye on the forecast and jump on it when the waves show up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast offshore wind to clean things up. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one is a good fit for intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.

There's free parking on hand, with roadside spots to leave the car.
