Overview
El Mystic is a sectiony left reef that breaks over boulders, sitting way out off the end of the bay. True to its name, it rarely turns on, so catching it working is a treat.
When It Works
El Mystic comes alive when a big southwest swell rolls through. It draws swell from southwest to west (SW-W), with southwest (SW) the best match. The wave works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it is only moderately consistent, so expect worthwhile windows rather than something you can rely on day to day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to groom the reef. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave, best suited to surfers who are comfortable reading a sectiony reef break. Expect a quiet lineup on the rare days it turns on.
