Overview
El Nuro is a reef left just south of a small fishing village and its long pier. More of a reef left than a true point, it picks up north swell and can turn into a fun, high-performance wave, with crumbling lips and forgiving cutback walls to work on. When conditions line up, extra peaks show further down towards the pier.
When It Works
The reef takes swell from west to north (W-N), and northwest (NW) is the direction that really makes it sing. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so there's a broad range to play with, and it breaks over a sand-covered rock shelf. Consistency is moderate, meaning it won't be on every day, but it delivers when the swell arrives.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean it up. The wave works through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a solid intermediate wave. The forgiving walls and sand-covered shelf, paired with a generally light crowd, make it accessible to improvers looking to push their surfing, and you can usually expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's working.
