Overview
Esposende serves up very consistent, west-facing beachbreaks that stretch away to the north of town, with lefts and rights peeling over a sandy bottom. The water here is about the coldest you'll find in Portugal.
When It Works
Swell arrives from a broad window running south to north (S-N), with northwest (NW) the best direction. The beach works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, but it won't handle much size, so bigger swells are generally too much for it.
Wind and Tide
An east (E) wind blows offshore here. The banks can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
It's a good option for beginners, and crowds are minimal, so there's usually plenty of room in the lineup.
Access
There's a car park with free parking as well as roadside parking, and facilities include showers and a lifeguard.
