Europie Surf Forecast Guide

Europie is Britain's most northwesterly break, a quality beachbreak of white sand and clear water on the Hebrides. It is best known for fast, hollow, powerful, Hossegor-style waves with faces up to 10 foot. Like any beachbreak, the shape depends on the sandbars, and here they are exposed to every passing Atlantic storm, so they shift about from one swell to the next.

When It Works

The bank draws swell from southwest through north to northeast, with a north swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, staying fun when small and turning heavy once the swell picks up. It is very consistent, and although it works year round, September through November is the standout stretch. Both lefts and rights peel over the sand.

Wind and Tide

Look for southeast offshore wind. The bank breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

Europie suits intermediate surfers best, and beginners will struggle unless it is small. Shortboards, fish, longboards, and bodyboards all have a place in the quiver. Expect a fairly quiet lineup that can feel a little reserved. It gets rippy and holds heavy waves and currents at size, so pick your days as the swell builds.

Access

Park for free behind the dunes by the play park, with roadside parking also an option. Restrooms and showers are on hand.
