Fakanakafo Bay is a river mouth break sitting about 61 km from Auki, with a couple of other spots close by in Fouia and Atori. The setup pairs a rivermouth peak with a long stretch of beachbreak, and it breaks over dead coral. Waves here tend to run on the average and smaller side.
When It Works
The bay pulls in swell from northeast through southeast, with northeast (NE) the best direction. The rivermouth peak offers both lefts and rights, so you can find a wave on either side. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind to groom the faces. The bay can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

The wave suits intermediate surfers.
Access
The long stretch of beachbreak is quite a hike to reach, so be ready for a walk to get out to it.
