Overview
Fongbin is a rivermouth beach break where a large river funnels swell onto ever-shifting black sandbars. The powerful peaks that stack up here break both left and right, and the beach holds real form when the sand lines up.
When It Works
Fongbin draws swell from north through east-northeast to southeast (N-ENE-SE), with northeast swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft over a mix of uneven reef and sand. Consistency is moderate, so you'll find rideable windows without it turning on every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. The break can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Fongbin suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
The coast road overlooks a stretch of rocky reefs running down to Fongbin. In bigger swells, more reefs open up off Highway 11 toward Bashien Dong. Because it sits at a large rivermouth, expect pollution after heavy rain.
