Forte Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Forte is a left-hand beachbreak at Cabo Frio, the 'cold cape', named for a fort built on the point back in 1616. The waves break over sand in a fairly urban setting, and the beach runs in a long arc down through Foguete and Pontal, where a left reef also sits off the island.

When It Works

The break draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), with an east (E) swell the best match, and the waves peel left. It's moderately consistent, coming to life when the southeast swell pushes in. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.

Wind and Tide

Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind. Forte can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a beginner-friendly wave, but don't expect much room to yourself. The lineup gets very busy, and the crowd turns competitive once the southeast swell fills in.

Access

Facilities cover restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and a surf school. For parking, you can pay in town or use the big beach car park at Pontal in summer, with free and roadside spots also available.
