Fox Hill Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Fox Hill is the longest right-hand point in New Hampshire and, when everything lines up, quite possibly the best wave in New England. It sits directly across the bay from Rye on the Rocks and breaks over rock. Three separate take-off spots run down the point, and with a bit of skill you can link them into one long ride. Hollow sections mix with enough open face to keep things interesting, and the point can handle nearly limitless size, with the lineup simply shifting farther out as the swell builds.

When It Works

The point draws swell from east to southeast and comes alive through autumn and winter, roughly September to March. It's usable from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, holding everything from head high up to triple overhead. Expect a quality right-hander on the days when swell, wind, and tide all fall into place.

Wind and Tide

Look for west offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from west-southwest to northwest. The point breaks on low to mid tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is an intermediate-to-expert wave, best ridden on a shortboard or a gun once it gets big. Expect a very busy lineup when it's on. Keep an eye out for rocks, currents, and lobster pots, and prepare for freezing water in winter. Summer paddle-outs stay mellow, but the cold makes full winter gear essential once the season turns.

Access

Parking fills quickly, so get there early. Grabbing an illegal spot risks a ticket.
