Overview
Fragata is a beach break that peels both left and right over a mix of uneven reef and sand, sitting along Fragata Beach in Cabo Verde. It's a somewhat inconsistent spot, so it rewards patience more than a fixed plan.
When It Works
The break draws swell from north through east, with northeast (NE) swell the best match, and it works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Since it's somewhat inconsistent, waves don't show up every day. Your best window tends to come when the persistent northeast trade winds ease off: the regular northeast wind swell can clean up and, if you're lucky, reveal rare long lefts at the far end of the beach.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. The beach can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The lineup stays fairly quiet, and the mellow waves make it approachable for beginners. If you head off exploring the east coast on those rare clean days, keep in mind it's sharky. It's also worth remembering the other islands, since Boa Vista, Santiago, and Sao Vicente pick up good waves in both winter north swells and summer south swells.
