Friar's Bay is a small, mellow wave just north of Marigot, and its easygoing shape makes it an ideal longboard spot. It breaks over a large, flat, shallow reef of live coral and peels both left and right. If you want something with more bite, look over the headland at the more challenging reefs to the south.
When It Works
The bay draws swell from northwest through northeast, with northwest swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. Consistency is moderate, so you'll want to catch it on the right day rather than count on it firing every time.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
With small, forgiving waves, Friar's Bay is a friendly spot for beginners and a natural fit for a longboard. The water stays clean and the lineup is usually fairly quiet.
