Overview
Mullet Bay is a beachbreak that breaks over sand and packs more punch than the area's other beach breaks. The waves are often hollow dumpers close to shore, which makes it an ideal bodyboard wave. Both lefts and rights come into play, depending on the day.
When It Works
Check it on a northwest (NW) swell, which is the best match, though it will draw anything from northwest to north (NW-N). A rare southwest-to-west hurricane swell can light it up too. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. The lefts are usually the pick, but they close out on a big swell, and that is when the rights start to reveal themselves. It can be somewhat inconsistent, so save your energy for when the swell genuinely lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. The bank can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Because it only breaks on rare occasions, the lineup stays quiet when it does turn on. It is an approachable wave that suits beginners.
