Gardur surf guide

Gardur is located at the tip of the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland. It features two sides that surfers can hit, which gives you some options depending on how the wind is behaving. The surfing here isn't for everyone, as it requires a decent swell to get the better north-facing reefs going when the wind is coming from the southwest.

The surf at Gardur really shines when the swell is coming from the west, but you can also catch some rides with southwest and north swells. The outside lefts tend to go unridden, which says something about the crowd levels here. For a more manageable option, smaller, soft-shouldered A-frames break in front of the little harbor, and they're best during mid to high tides. Generally, the spot can handle swell sizes around 5 feet (1.5 meters), making it suitable for intermediate surfers looking to test their skills on a reef setup that offers both lefts and rights.

To get to Gardur, just drive through Keflavik and head to the town of Gardur. Keep going as far west as you can, and you’ll end up near two lighthouses at the end of the road. It’s a nice place to park, and from there, you’re all set to catch some waves. Just make sure to check the swell and tide conditions before you paddle out!
