Overview
Gerra is a consistent beachbreak spread along a long stretch of sand, where a shifting set of peaks forms up depending on the sandbars. It sits in a rural setting with plenty of space, though it's fairly close to the town of San Vicente de la Barquera. The banks serve up both lefts and rights.
When It Works
Gerra pulls in swell from west to north (W-N), and it's at its best on a northwest (NW) swell. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it holds its shape reliably across that range, making it a dependable option when other spots go flat.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean things up. The beach works through most of the tide, from low to high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers comfortably. The lineup is rarely crowded, so you'll usually find space to spread out across the peaks, with maybe a few extra tourists around in summer.
Access
There's a car park with free parking plus roadside parking, and beach facilities include showers, a lifeguard, and a surf school, with camping nearby. Keep in mind there can be estuarine pollution coming from San Vicente.
