Overview
Ghallis Rock is an exposed outer reef that throws up shallow, fast lefts with plenty of bite. The waves can be challenging, and the spot draws windsurfers as well as surfers.
When It Works
The reef picks up swell from the northeast through east, and it comes together best on a straight northeast (NE) swell. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so there is a solid window once a proper swell fills in. Consistency is on the patchy side, so expect to time your sessions around the right swells rather than counting on it day to day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean up the faces. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers comfortable with a fast, shallow reef. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet, so you can usually find space when it is on.
Access
The main challenge here is getting in and out of the water. To paddle out, jump off the old concrete platform, and to come back in, scramble the rocks directly in front of the island. There is a car park with free parking nearby.
