Overview
Golf Course Reef is a standout left-hander near Ulladulla, a bustling fishing port and commercial centre that sits at the heart of South Coast surfing. It's an amazing wave, with long, hollow walls peeling over shallow rocks. Across the bay there's also a right and a faster left that come to life in smaller swells.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northeast through southeast, with east (E) the best match, and breaks over uneven reef. It's usable from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and this is a spot where the bigger the better: big 8-10ft NE-SE swells really light the reef up, though expect a heavy paddle out when it's that size. Consistency is moderate, so you'll want to time your window.
Wind and Tide
Look for west (W) offshore wind. The reef works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave. Those long, hollow walls throw over shallow rock, and locals show real respect for the place, so it rewards surfers who know what they're doing. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, along with roadside parking, though some of it is restricted. To reach the southern side, drive through the golf course or park in the residential streets.
