Overview
Golf Course is a long left that reels down a sharp, rocky point beside the Ocean Bay Golf Club in Shimei Wan. The wave breaks over a mix of boulders and sand as it runs the length of the point.
When It Works
It handles swell from the northeast through the southeast, and a northeast (NE) swell is the best match, with the point really coming alive on bigger northeast pulses. The break is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. On smaller days you get mellow, crumbling walls that are perfect for longboarding, while bigger swells open up a fast inside section and switch on a second, shorter left hugging the headland in the next bay east. Consistency is somewhat inconsistent, so it rewards catching it on the right swell.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind, with north-quadrant winds suiting it best. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
The wave suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's on. Reaching that fast inside section is a big paddle against sweeping currents, and the strong southward sweep can make jumping off the slippery headland rocks the tempting way in.
Access
Ask the golf course for permission before you paddle out. There's free roadside parking nearby, though it can be restricted.
