Green Island Left surf guide

Green Island Left is located on the southern tip of the entrance to the Baie des Tortues. This spot is well-positioned to catch S-SW swells, making it a decent place to surf when conditions are right. It generally stays clean even with moderate trade winds, which is a bonus for those looking to enjoy a good session.

The waves here break over LiveCoral and run to the left, offering a variety of sections that can potentially barrel or wall up nicely. It's best to hit this spot when the swell is coming from the Southwest or even South. It handles swell sizes around 3ft (about 0.9 meters), and it works best with wind coming from the East. For the ideal experience, aim for mid to high tides, as this is when the surf is usually at its best.

Models and Updates

Surfnerd blends multiple global and local wind and swell models using advanced interpolation and spatial techniques to create an "ensemble" forecast. Forecasts are refreshed hourly.

Wind certainty

Wind certainty tells you how much the weather models agree on the forecast.

  • High certainty: Models agree closely; forecast is reliable.
  • Medium certainty: Some disagreement; conditions may shift slightly.
    • Low certainty: Models diverge; treat forecast with caution.

We calculate this by comparing wind speed, gust and direction from multiple models (like GFS, ECMWF, Arome, and Harmonie) and seeing how closely they match. They are weighted, meaning that some models count more than others, depending on how good they are for a certain spot.
